Obituary for Glenda Sue Gilbert
Glenda Sue Gilbert, 48, of Brookings, passed away in Gold Beach on April 11, 2014 following a battle with cancer.
Glenda was born November 4, 1965 in Gold Beach, Ore. to William and Ann (Marsh) Smith. She grew up and graduated from school there. Glenda worked at many different places along the southern Oregon coast including the Port of Coos Bay, the Spinreel, Dick and Caseys, the ice house at the Port of Brookings and the Brookings Post Office, but she found her passion working with her dad aboard his fishing vessel, the Ann Me. Following Bills retirement, Glenda took over running the ship until her health forced her to retire. When she wasnt working, Glenda enjoyed fishing, gardening, rock hounding and doing pottery. She married Mark L. Gilbert in 1990. He preceded her in death in 2000. Glenda was a hard worker and will be missed.
Survivors include her sons, Andrew Gilbert of Brookings, Luke Gilbert and Nathaniel Gilbert, both of Gold Beach, mother, Ann Smith of Gold Beach, brother, Mark Smith of Gold Beach, half brothers, Gordon Smith of Bethel Island, Calif., Greg Smith of Monterey, Calif., half sister, Tina Bennett of Bainbridge, Geo., and a granddaughter, Roselynn Overdevest. Glenda was preceded in death by her father, William Bill Smith and her husband, Mark.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Timothys Episcopal Church, 401 Fir St. in Brookings. The time of the service is pending. Rev. Bernie Lindley will officiate.
