Obituary for Gladys Rencher Ashton
Gladys Irene Rencher Ashton of Brookings, Oregon returned home to our Heavenly Father on March 26, 2016 following a stroke that took her very quickly so she didn't have to suffer.
Gladys was born September 7th 1924. She was a very lively 91 year old and her passing took us all by surprise. She was born to goodly parents named Guy Benjamin Rencher and Irene Ramona Eigholtz Rencher in Los Angeles, California. They were living on a remote ranger station near Globe, Arizona, 60 miles from civilization, and her mother being a city girl did not want to have a baby out there, so went home to the city. Gladys grew up in Eager, Arizona with lots of cousins and friends she had for all their lives. Roger and Gladys lived in numerous places having four daughters all born in different states. Gladys was caring, generous to a fault, hated to see anyone go hungry and had a very good sense of humor. During WWII she went to nurses training at Good Samaritan in Phoenix, Arizona and worked as an RN all of her life, helping with her skills and knowledge everyone she possibly could and who needed her way into her 80s.
Gladys is survived by her husband Roger Gray Ashton Brookings. They were married for 67 years all happy and busy years; also her four daughters Irene Louise “Reni” Ashton, Ethel Kay (George) Johansen of Mt Pleasant, Utah; Mary Jo Ashton Taylor of Gresham, Oregon; and Virginia Lee (Josh) Riddle of Brookings, Oregon, 19 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild and a great grandchild and her parents, brothers, all her dear cousins and all her childhood friends. But Gladys made good friends wherever she went that she kept for a lifetime and still has many close friends here in Brookings that she loves so dearly. We will miss her.
Facebook is alive with picture and memories being posted by all her grandchildren and children and nephews and nieces whom she loved like her own children. As stated by one of those posts "a little sparkle has gone out of the world". We love you and miss you already.
