Obituary for Gerald B. Macken
Gerald B. Macken July 28, 1921 – Sept. 30, 2015 Gerald B. Macken, 94, of Brookings, Ore., passed away in Coos Bay, Ore. on September 30, 2015. Gerald was born July 28, 1921 in Rochester, Minn. to Cyril and Loretta (McCarthy) Macken. He entered the US Air Force in 1943 and served honorably until being discharged in 1955 at the rank of Captain. Gerald lived in North Highlands, Calif. where he operated a liquor store, a Chicken Delight restaurant and Shaky’s Pizza Parlor. Following retirement, he moved to Green Valley, Ariz. in 1985. He lived there until moving to Brookings to be near family in 2012. Gerald enjoyed playing golf and dining out, especially at country clubs. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Danon Macken of Brookings; daughter, Marlys Macken of Madison, Wisc. And son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Dottie Macken of Lincoln, Calif.; grandchildren, Jamie Macken and Christopher Martin; sisters, Joann and Maggie Macken, both of Sacramento, Calif., brother, Gordie Macken of Dallas, Tex. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Majel Macken and a son, Kevin Macken. A committal service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road in Eagle Point, Ore. Rev. Felix Vistal will officiate. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
