Obituary for George F. Myers
George F. Myers, 82, of Brookings, passed away July 8, 2010, in Crescent City, Calif. George was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Somerset, Pa., to Frederick and Carrie (Dunlap) Myers. He moved to California in his teenage years where he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He then promptly enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947. George married Lorraine Dion Oct. 24, 1953, in Las Vegas. After working a short time at Douglas Aircraft Company, George began what would be a 33-year career with Cardinal Industrial Finishes in El Monte, Calif., where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. Upon retiring, he and Lorraine moved to Newport, Wash., where they lived until moving to Brookings in 2007. George enjoyed building model ships, riding dune buggies and going out to eat. Survivors include Lorraine, his wife of 56 years, of Brookings; sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Lorna Myers of Placerville, Calif., Ron and Julie Myers of Grizzly Flats, Calif., Todd and Lori Myers of Newport; daughter Debbie of Brookings; sister Kay Thomason of Warren, Ark.; grandchildren Jarret, Kyle, Travis, Melissa, David and Brandyn. George was preceded in death by a sister Carolyn Burk and a daughter Christie Jo. A memorial service with military honors was held at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, where George was laid to rest.
