Obituary for George Broberg
George Broberg passed away at his home in Brookings, Ore. on March 22, 2013. He was 75. George was born September 24, 1937 in Chicago, IL. to George and Fay (Allen) Broberg. He was raised in the Tacoma, WA area with his grandparents. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict where he earned the Silver Star. George later worked for more than 20 years as a Correctional Officer at Pelican Bay State Prison. He married Suzette Mahoney in Lemoore, Calif on March 23, 1991. George loved to read and watch news and political programs. Survivors include his wife Suzette of Brookings, sons Jason Broberg and his wife, Johanna of Brookings, Michael Broberg of Brookings, stepchildren, Vickie Fowler of McKinleyville, Calif., Julia Stanfill of Bothel, Wash., Bonnie Wikler and her husband Phillip of San Diego, Calif., Brent Mahoney of Omaha, NE, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Ann Rath and a sister, Geraldine. A celebration of George’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. in Brookings.
