Obituary for George A. King
George A. King, 94, of Brookings, passed away June 14, 2010, in Brookings of natural causes. He was born Sept.11, 1915, in Arizona, to Finis and Fannie King. During his childhood George moved several times between Arizona, California, Oregon, and Montana following work with his parents. He married Jessie Gaddy Nov. 22, 1937, in the Rogue Valley. George spent his working years as a master mechanic, truck driver, logger, home builder. In his later years he was the owner of a small engine repair business in Springfield. He and his wife moved to Brookings in 1997 to be near their daughter. George was a Master Mason and a Shriner. He was an active member of Brookings Presbyterian Church. George enjoyed fishing, and was an avid bowler, bowling on two leagues until he was 93. Survivors include daughter Bonnie Miner of Brookings; sons Wesley and his wife Carol of Brookings, Terry of Federal Way, Wash.; grandchildren Tanya Hewitt of Phoenix, Ariz., Penny Griffith of West Grove, Pa., Suzie Rivas of Redding, Calif., Jeannie Shipley of Madera, Calif., Wesley King of Redding, Calif. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Andrew, Amanda, Angela, Austin, Erin, Valerie, and Allison. He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie; grandson Michael Hewitt. A viewing will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., in Brookings. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, at Brookings Presbyterian Church, 540 Pacific Ave.
