Obituary for George A. Crawford
George A. Crawford of Brookings, Ore., went home to Heaven on Oct. 10, 2014. He was 86 years old. George was born June 11, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., to John and Grace (Brown) Crawford. He began dating Dawn Smith in 1950, and four years later they were married on Nov. 29, 1954. Though they were living in Pasadena, they eloped to Yuma, Ariz. George worked as a machinery foreman at Duraflex International for 34 years, where he made diving boards for swimming pools. He was a hard-working man with a natural talent for creating and fixing just about anything. He was a self-taught mechanic. He was a very good-hearted man with a lot of common sense. He was a fantastic husband and father, and a loyal friend. He could also drive anything; the only thing he never piloted was a locomotive, but he did everything else from cars to trucks to airplanes. George was also an avid bowler, and in his younger years bowled four leagues a week. He taught his wife how to bowl, and how to drive. He enjoyed fishing on boats, hunting, and watching sports in his earlier life. He did volunteer work for several different places, and he and his wife Dawn worked the Billy Graham Crusade in Reno. He was his wife’s 90-percent angel. George is survived by his wife Dawn; their children George A. Crawford, Jr., Debra C. Buckman, and Rob H. Crawford and his wife Misty. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Florence. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at Safe Harbor Christian Fellowship in Brookings. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
