Obituary for Gayle E. Paxton
Gayle E. Paxton passed away in Gold Beach, OR on May 4, 2011. He was 87. Gayle was born January 27, 1924 in Marysville, KS to Ray and Nellie (Rupp) Paxton. He spent his childhood there. After graduating high school, Gayle enlisted in the US Navy where he served for four years during WWII. During that time, while serving as a gunfire controlman aboard the USS Kidd, Gayle sustained a shrapnel injury from a kamikaze attach that earned him the Purple Heart. Following an honorable discharge, he began what would be a lifelong career in the insurance industry, mostly as an adjuster for Maryland Casualty Company. On September 2, 1970, Gayle married Marjorie in Lincoln City, OR. They lived there briefly before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii where they lived for four years. They would return to Oregon and live in the Portland area before moving to Gold Beach in 1989. Gayle was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. Survivors include his sons, Dennis Paxton of Portland, Lonnie Paxton and his wife, Jody of Portland, daughter, Renee Bundy and her husband Norm Schaeffer of Gold Beach, stepdaughter, Carol Sabo and her husband Richard of Mt. Vernon, WA, grandchildren, Doug, Beth, Jenny, Kelly and Kory, brother, Art Paxton. Gayle was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, grandson, Benjamin Creek, and sisters, June Benson and Lila Lee Jackson. No public ceremony will be held. Redwood Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
