Fred Lugenbeel, 88, peacefully entered eternal rest on October 9, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born in Grant, Nebraska, on September 4, 1934, to Fred and Mabel Lugenbeel. The family relocated to Corvallis, Oregon, during Fred’s childhood. Upon graduating from Corvallis High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving his country as a medical supply sergeant in Germany.
He was united in marriage to Emma Kay Calhoun on July 1, 1957. After graduating from Oregon Institute of Technology, Fred and Kay raised their five children in Citrus Heights, and then Chico, California. He was well known and respected in the local commercial refrigeration field.
In 2000, Fred and Kay moved to Gold Beach, Oregon, fulfilling a long-time retirement dream. There he was able to more fully
enjoy his hobbies of woodworking, fishing, gardening, reading and general home improvement. He relished visits from children and grandchildren.
We remember Fred as a dedicated, loving, dependable and fun husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was hardworking, always ready with a funny comment and a helping hand. He especially loved get-togethers with family and friends, and the opportunity to swap stories and share laughs.
Fred was a life-long Catholic, prayed the rosary daily with Kay, and volunteered many hours of labor to his local parishes over the years. He and Kay recently celebrated 65 years of marital happiness.
Fred is survived by his wife Kay; his children: Catherine (Raymond) Keyawa, Carolyn (Richard) Schwan, Connie (Jim) Ewen, Paul Lugenbeel and Fritz (Angela) Lugenbeel; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, two sisters, in-laws, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed!
