Obituary for Fred Richard Fox Sr.
Fred Richard Fox Sr., also known as Dick or Fred, but mainly Richard in his retired years, passed away of natural causes on May 16, 2015. He was 79 years of age. He was born June 20, 1935 in Oregon City, Oregon to Robert Frederick "Fred" and Edith Evelyn Fox. His father Fred was the first Exalted Ruler of the current Brookings Elks Lodge 1934. Richard got his first taste of the trucking industry while making one of the first non-military crossings of the ALCAN Highway from Alaska in 1945, riding with his father in his first truck. He loved driving those big rigs, moving all loads imaginable. His career was one of his greatest loves. He retired from Wilhelm Trucking heavy hauling of Portland, Oregon in December, 1993. His hobby was writing poetry about many events of his life, and he even had a few published in his favorite trucker magazine. Richard was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister Judy Swanson, formerly of Brookings. He was also preceded by two wives, Mary and Patricia. He is survived by his brother Robert Gerald “Jerry” Fox of Battleground, WA; son Fred Richard “Rick” Fox Jr. of Portland; son Gerald Robert “Jerry” Fox and daughter Cheryl L. Ells of Brookings; also many grand- and great-grandchildren, mostly in the Brookings area. His wish to be cremated and join his past wife Patricia will be honored. He also wished for a small celebration through the Elks Lodge at a later time. Our friend, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather will be greatly missed! Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
