Obituary for Fred J. Hobson
Fred J. Hobson, 86, of Gold Beach, passed away on March 16, 2017.
Fred was born April 23, 1930 in Gallup, New Mexico to Fred and Della (McFarland) Hobson. Fred served in the US Navy from 1950-1954. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University in 1959. Following his service, he worked for Safeway for 12 years in CA, and then after moving to Gold Beach, he worked for the Champion International mill for 17.5 years. In addition, he worked as a correctional officer for the Curry County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years.
Fred married Margaret Ann Hosier in El Monte, Calif. on April 15, 1961.
He served as a deacon and then later as an elder with the Church of Christ in Gold Beach.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, Margaret of Gold Beach; son, Jesse Lee Hobson and his wife Cynthia of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and daughters Rena Jackson and her husband Royce of Bothell, WA, and Kim Gahan and her husband Jay of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren Randy, Jeremy, Danielle, Jaegan, Jessica, and Jacob; and two great grandchildren Esmeralda and Jade. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Della Hobson and his sister Midge Crow.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Church of Christ, 94184 11th St. in Gold Beach. A reception will follow the service. Private interment will be at Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach.
