Obituary for Frances "Tassie" K. Hickcox
Frances "Tassie" K. Hickcox Aug. 9, 1931 - Sept. 4, 2010 Frances "Tassie" K. Hickcox passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene. She was 79. Tassie, as family and friends knew her, was born August 9, 1931 in Dodgeville, WI to William and Alice (Williams) Donahue. She grew up in Ridgeway and Barneveld, WI. Following high school, Tassie attended Madison Business College in Madison, WI. She married Donald Hickcox, Sr. in Wisconsin on September 13, 1953. They moved to Southern California in 1960. In 1970, the family moved to Gold Beach where they owned and operated the Franko service station for 7 years. Tassie also worked for the Leith and Edge-of-town Motels doing housekeeping. She and Donald participated in the Early Americans program through the US Forest Service's Zone 2 headquarters. Tassie enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino. She also liked rides up the river and watching soap operas. Most of all, though, Tassie loved spending time with her family. Whether it was cooking a large meal or sending the grandchildren to pick blackberries for her wonderful blackberry pie, she cherished time spent with her kids and grandkids. She will be remembered as a caring, loving, kind-hearted and generous mother, grandmother and friend. Survivors include her children, Donald Hickcox, Jr. and his wife, Kathi of Gold Beach, Joan Earnest of Gold Beach, David Hickcox, Sr. and his wife, Nancy of Gold Beach, Bill Hickcox and his wife, Janelle of Redmond, OR, grandchildren, Angela Phillips,husband Mick,Larry Earnest, wife Beth,Jessica Clark husband Dana. David Hickcox, Jr., Esther Smith, Shannda Hickcox, Michelle Tulles, Amanda Johnson, Brandon McIntosh and Shane Sherman, great grandchildren, Devin Banta, Alec Banta, Gavin Clark, Levi Earnest, Alexander Adamson, Sydney Phillips and Wyatt Phillips, sister, Jane Swenson and her husband, Jim of Madison, WI. Tassie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1999 and a sister, Elizabeth Leary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Curry Health Foundation, PO Box 1274, Gold Beach, OR 97444. A graveside service will be held at Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 1:00pm. A celebration of Tassie's life will follow at the Moose Lodge, 315 Leith Rd. in Gold Beach. Cremation was held at Redwood Memorial Crematory in Brookings.
