Obituary for Eva Sova
Eva Sova passed away on March 30, 2015 in a Brookings Alzheimer’s facility. She was born in Reedley, Calif. to Peter and Elsie (Radish) Roynica. Eva loved family, yard sales, dancing, collecting Elvis and owls, jazz festivals and watching football with her beloved husband, Robert. Eva lived in San Jose, Calif., working in retail until she and Robert moved to Brookings in 1992. They spent the next 18 years traveling the United States to visit children, grandchildren, friends and to attend jazz festivals. Eva was lucky that she found two men that loved dancing as much as she did. After her husband, James Dooney, died in 1968, she found love again and married Robert Sova in 1973. She was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Brookings. She is survived by husband, Robert, and daughter, Kathleen Dooney of Brookings, Ore., stepson, Mark Sova (Carleen) of San Jose, Calif., stepdaughter, Mara Collins of Granada Hills, Calif., nephews, Forrest Barkes (Dawna) of Brookings and Jerry Barkes of Gold Beach, niece, Judy LoPina (Tony) of San Jose, Calif., cousins, Mary Batinich of San Jose, Calif., Lois Lepesh of Los Altos, Calif. Eva was grandma to Ian, Katherine, Erin, Nick, Rachel and Zach, she also had 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her first husband, Eva was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Marian Pemberton, Elsie Celli, Phillip Roynica, Lee Campagna and Ann Rinauro. Eva’s family would like to thank Ocean Park Alzheimer’s Facility for the wonderful and loving care she received the last years of her life. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Oregon Chapter, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland, OR 97209. Eva’s cremated remains will be interred at Santa Clara Mission Catholic Cemetery. A graveside service will be held there on June 14, 2015. A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at 1 p.m. on April 11, 2015 at the Community Center at Oceanview Estates, 15505 Oceanview Drive in Brookings. If you are able, please wear something red as that was Eva’s favorite color. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
