Obituary for Eva Kathryn Heap
EVA KATHRYN SATTERBERG HEAP Eva passed away on January 10, 2011 at the age of 98 in Crescent City, CA. She was born December 1, 1912, in Kingsburg, California to Richard and Tillie Satterberg, both immigrants from Sweden. Eva graduated from Kingsburg High School in 1930. She attended LaVerne College and graduated from Methodist Hospital in Los Angeles in 1932 with a degree in nursing. She did post graduate work at Stanford-Lane Hospital in San Francisco. Following graduation she worked for Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. Eva moved to Reno in 1942 to work at Washoe Medical Center. She married Richard T. Heap August 3, 1942. They later divorced. In 1953 she worked as a secretary to the Director of Adult Education for Washoe County School District. She worked for many years for Dr. Wesley Hall. In 1962 she became a school nurse for Washoe County School District. She was assigned to Central Junior High, Clayton Junior High and Swope Junior High and several elementary schools. She retired from the Washoe County School District in 1978. She was given a Life Membership in PTA from Elmcrest School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Honor Society and was awarded the Rose Award from Delta Kappa Gamma for service to the chapter in 1979. She was nominated for the National School Nurse of the year from Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Madeline Kinsman, Howard, Gordon; and niece Judy Wilson. She is survived by her son, Richard T. Heap, Jr. and daughter-in-law Janice of Brookings, OR; grandson, Robert B. Heap of Goddard, KS; granddaughter, Jennifer Amerson of Fallon, NV; great-grandson, Nicholas Amerson of Fallon, NV, nieces Ann Bell (Jerry) of Reno; Corinne Jennings (Warren) of Portola, CA; Sharon Fry of Clovis, CA; Judy Harris (Dennis) of Reno; Maura Buller of Stockton; Sharon Lindgron of Gardnerville, and nephews Jim Satterberg (Kathy) and Jerry Satterberg (Valerie) of Fresno, CA. At her request, a graveside service will be held in Kingsburg, CA at a later date.
