Emma L. MacPherson, 62, of Gold Beach, Ore., passed away in her home on Feb. 23, 2014. Emma was born Dec. 24, 1951 in Gold Beach to Raymond Stevens and Lucille (Wilson) Stevens. She grew up in Gold Beach, and lived the majority of her life there, only leaving for a brief period to study botany at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore. Emma was an excellent student, and graduated 2nd in her class as salutatorian in high school in 1970. She had Christian beliefs, and often had fellowships at her late sister Connie’s house. She was active in 4-H, loved plants, and was an excellent cook with hundreds of her own recipes. She also enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, knitting and sewing. A successful entrepreneur, Emma owned and ran her own restaurant, the Golden Egg, in Gold Beach for 23 years before retiring due to health reasons. The restaurant was her life, and she devoted much of her time and energy into running it. Emma is survived by her sons, James C. MacPherson of Gold Beach, and Mark MacPherson of Coos Bay; her siblings Raymond, Anita and Gloria; her close friends Jenelle and Ros of California; and three grandsons, Aiden and Noah MacPherson, and Tyler Smith. She is preceded in death by her sister Connie Halcomb, her husband Joseph, and her parents. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., Brookings, OR 97415. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
