Obituary for Elizabeth M. "Betty" Burgess
Elizabeth M. “Betty” Burgess December 12, 1917 – July 1, 2011 Elizabeth M. “Betty” Burgess passed away in Harbor on July 1, 2011. She was 93. Betty was born December 12, 1917 in Kansas City, MO to Evan and Mary (Harrod) Morris. She attended Iowa State College where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. Betty married Ted Burgess in San Francisco, CA on December 6, 1945. This past December, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. In 1961, they moved to Gold Beach where Betty worked for more than 20 years as a bookkeeper with Wilson Firestone Tires. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gold Beach and the Curry General Hospital Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed playing bridge, dancing with Ted, taking walks, attending Elderhostels around the U.S. and Canada, and being with her family. Another special part of her life was reunions she attended with her girlhood friends from Campfire Girls. Survivors include her husband Ted of Gold Beach; daughters Kathleen of Seattle, WA, Beverly of Ashland, OR, Terry of Ashland, OR; son, Alan and his wife, Caren of Half Moon Bay, CA; grandchildren Jessica, Christopher, Anna, and Kathryn; and great grandchildren Sophia and Lucia. Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Harrod and Robert. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 493, Gold Beach, OR 97444; Curry General Hospital Auxiliary, 94220 Fourth St., Gold Beach, OR; or to the First Presbyterian Church of Gold Beach, PO Box 1137, Gold Beach, OR 97444. A celebration of her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church 29692 Hillcrest St. in Gold Beach on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 1000 a.m.
