Obituary for Elizabeth A. Peale
Elizabeth A. Peale of Gold Beach, Ore., passed away in Gold Beach on Aug. 30, 2014. She was 91 years old. Elizabeth was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Watertown, Mich., to Arthur and Pearl (Jones) Rexstrew. She grew up in Michigan, and graduated from William G. Hather High School in 1941. In January of 1944, Elizabeth enlisted in the U.S. Army, where she served honorably for a year as an air operations specialist at Kearney Air Field in Kearney, Neb. After the Army, she worked as a financial bookkeeper for the majority of her career. On Nov. 28, 1969, Elizabeth married Gerald Peale in Las Vegas, Nev. Elizabeth was an avid book reader, a great writer, an excellent poet, and loved to recite poetry. She had some of her poetry published and received the Editors Choice Award in Aug. 2005 for her poem "Home," and The National Library of Poetry Published her poem entitled, "To A Loved One" in Aug. 1993. She was very creative, and enjoyed making her own birthday and greeting cards for her friends and family. Elizabeth also enjoyed flying, and anything to do with airplanes. She was a wonderful mom and grandma. She is survived by her sons, Gregory A. Peale and his wife Charlene of Burbank, Calif., and Douglas W. Peale and his wife Ginger of Simi Valley, Calif.; and her sister Marion Coryell of Munising, Mich. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Peale; her parents, Arther and Pearl Rexstrew; two sisters; and two brothers. A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Sixth Street Baptist Church, 94301 6th St., Gold Beach, OR 97444. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Memorial fund in her honor. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
