Long time Brookings resident Elden LeRoy Bovey passed away at home on June 13, 2018. He was born September 7, 1933 in Garden City, Kansas to Samuel A. and Xenia M. (Rorabaw) Bovey.
Elden grew up in Oklahoma and was living there when he joined the Army, serving 2 years active duty and then in the Reserves. He worked 32 years as a mechanic and foreman for Owens-Corning. He and his late wife Dorothy were members of First Baptist Community Church of Brookings.
Family was the most important thing to Elden… and he enjoyed spending time with them. His second love was fishing, which is why he retired to Brookings, Oregon. He was also a great sports fan – and it was important that you did NOT talk to him while he was watching a football or baseball game!
Elden is survived by his daughter Rose Mary Norton of Modesto, California, and four grandchildren; also by niece and caregiver, Marlyn Rauser of Brookings.
Elden’s remains will be scattered at sea by the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at a later date. There will be no local services at his request.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Coastal Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 493
Gold Beach OR 97444 or Cal-Ore Life Flight, P.O. Box 1986, Brookings, OR 97415.
