Obituary for Edward L. Rossiter
Edward L. Rossiter, 77, of Gold Beach, OR, passed away in Gold Beach on September 13, 2015 after a fierce battle with cancer. Ed was born on May 18, 1938 in Pasadena, CA, one of three children to Lawrence F. and Gladys (Armstrong) Rossiter. Ed earned his engineering degrees (B.S. in 1960 and M.S. in 1961) at Stanford University. As an undergraduate, Ed enrolled in the ROTC program and followed his time in college by serving two years as an officer in the US Navy just prior to the Vietnam War. Ed then earned his Ph.D. degree in Engineering/Physics at Princeton University, followed by his MBA degree from Stanford in 1968. He spent much of his career in the Silicon Valley area of California, where he began working in the engineering field doing mathematical analysis and modeling. Later Ed worked as product marketing manager, overseeing marine, turbo-machinery and industrial product lines. He married Lorraine Filippone in Menlo Park, CA in 1978. They lived there and in Reno, NV before moving to Gold Beach in 2000. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of Gold Beach; children, Ellie Rossiter of San Francisco, CA; Ted Rossiter and his wife, Colleen of Minneapolis, MN; Phoebe Rossiter and her husband, Michael Blodgett of Oakland, CA; and Melissa Standen and her husband, Erik Bloom of San Francisco, CA; and seven grandchildren, ages 6-18. Ed traveled all over the world. He treasured the ocean, and he loved nature, animals and science.
