Obituary for Ed A. Wait
Ed A Wait, age 63, died at home in Brookings, Oregon on January 8, 2018. He was born on July 13, 1954 in Oakland, CA to parents Bessie (Wilsey) and Phillip Wait.
A memorial service and celebration of life is scheduled for 2:00 pm January 20, 2018 at the Brookings Elks Lodge, 800 Elk Dr, Brookings OR 97415 with a potluck reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ed’s life. The family would like to thank everyone who supported us during this difficult time; you know who you are.
Ed is survived by his wife Dorothy (Perry) Wait, of Brookings; his brother Phillip Wait, of Vancouver WA; his son, Jason Wait of Longview WA, his son Cody Wait of Olympia WA and his daughter Samantha Mabanang of Olympia WA; a granddaughter, Jessyca Johnson-Wait and grandson, Kalani Mabanang, He is also survived by “bonus” children Margaret Arias of Crescent City CA and Sarah and Thomas Rosina of Redding, CA. Bonus grandchildren include Marcos Nunez-Arias and Matteo Cari-Arias. He is preceded in death by his parents Bessie (Wilsey) and Phillip Wait, his sister Pat and his brother Burtt.
Ed worked in several different fields during his career: millwork, environmental remediation, construction, and state and local government administration. Prior to his second retirement in 2017, he worked for Tolowa Dee-ni’ Natiion in Smith River, first as the Grants and Contracts Manager and then in the Tribal Gaming Agency.
Ed was a longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and supported many special projects at the Brookings Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing mostly, along with camping, playing poker and video games, watching football, and golfing in his younger years. His family and friends will remember him as a fun-loving person with a witty and sharp sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brookings Elks Lodge Scholarship Fund.
