Obituary for Earl Layne
Earl Layne Jan. 9, 1943 – Feb. 19, 2016
Earl Layne, 73, of Brookings, passed away on Feb. 19, 2016 at a local care facility. Earl was born on Jan. 9, 1943 in Palmer, Tennessee to William (Bill) and Rosa Lee Layne. The family moved to Lovell, Wyoming in 1952. Earl met Mary Malliot in 1960 and they were married in 1962, enjoying life together for 54 years. The couple and three children moved to Brookings in 1974 when Earl bought a share in the then Brookings Plywood Corporation. Earl worked there until his retirement in 2003. In his spare time Earl liked to search the beaches for agates and glass floats. During one of the couple’s vacations to Whitefish, Montana, they discovered their passion for Fenton Art Glass. Their passion found them searching antique shops, flea markets and garage sales throughout the western states end eventually Ebay.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wiley and Melvin, and sister Mildred.
Survivors include his wife Mary; son Guy and wife Shantelle; daughters Chris Turner and Tammy Rigel; Siblings Jack, John, Al and Lois; Grandchildren Nick Turner, Ashley Heater, Tiffany Edlund, Kyle Simmonds, April Worlton and Steven Layne; Great-grandchildren Diego Turner, Lakota and Angel Heater, and Linden Worlton.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Redwood Memorial chapel, 1020 Fifield Street, Brookings.
