Obituary for Drashti Sarju Patel

Drashti Sarju Patel Jan. 15, 1978 - Oct. 14, 2010 Drashti Sarju Patel passed away at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield, OR on Thursday, October 14, 2010. She was 32. Drashti was born January 15, 1978 in Bhatera, Gujarat, India to Hasmukhbhai Patel and Jashoda Patel. She grew up there and received a bachelor's degree in microbiology. Drashti married Sarju in India on April 1, 1999. They came to the US shortly after that settling in the San Francisco Bay area. Drashti worked in security and hotel management before she and Sarju moved to Brookings in 2005 to be near family. She enjoyed dancing, traveling and watching television with her husband. Drashti stood next to her husband through good and bad times. When she moved to Brookings, she took on the responsibilities of being a housewife and helping manage the family business. She was close to her father-in-law, Chiman, and had become like another daughter to him. She was a mother figure to her sister-in-law, Anju. Drashti will be remembered as a loving wife, sister, daughter and friend. Survivors include her husband, Sarju of Brookings, parents, Hasmukhbhai and Jashoda Patel of Philadelphia, PA, brothers, Chriag Patel of Australia, Vinkur Patel and his wife, Mina of India, cousin, Manil Patel of Boston, Mass., father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chiman and Minaxi Patel and sister-in law Anju of Brookings. A funeral service will be held on Saturday (today), October 16, 2010 at 1:00pm at the Kalmiopsis School Gymnasium. Ceremonial cremation will follow the service.
