Obituary for Douglas A. Baldwin, Sr.
Douglas A. Baldwin, Sr., 79, passed away at his home in Brookings, Ore. on February 9, 2014. Douglas was born February 11, 1934 in San Bernardino, Calif. to Alfred and Dorothy (Francis) Baldwin. He attended school in Colton, Calif. before entering the US Navy. He served honorably during the Korean War in the submarine division. Douglas married Sandra on Nov. 29, 1974 in Reno, Nevada. They moved to Brookings in 1980 where they started a nursery they named Baldwin’s Fuchsia World. Douglas and Sandra also operated Elk Valley Gardens in Crescent City and the Foxglove Nursery in Brookings. They retired in 1996. Douglas enjoyed prospecting, gardening and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Brookings, son, Douglas Baldwin, Jr. of Brookings, daughters Denise Hughes of Springfield, Missouri, Deborah Rounds of Palm Springs, Calif., and Brenda Price of Portland, Ore., step son, Rob Sutherland of Eatonville, Wash., sister, Rebecca McIntosh of San Bernardino, Calif., fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. No public ceremony will be held.
