Obituary for Dorothy "Mahala" Evelyn Fraley
Dorothy Evelyn Fraley (aka Mahala), age 90, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, in Crescent City, Calif., of natural causes She was born May 5, 1920, in Evansville, Ind., to Richard and Mary Reas Porter. She married Thomas Zoll in 1943; they later divorced. She married Grant Fraley in 1950 in Maywood, Calif., and they raised their children in California and Utah. They later divorced. Dorothy was a fun and unique individual. She was a wonderful cook, and was known for her delicious pies and desserts. She was very artistic and taught herself to oil paint. She was proud of her many paintings and loved to see them displayed. Dorothy was fun loving and enjoyed being around people. She was an expert at bingo and drove herself to the games until she was 90. She always dressed up with lots of jewelry and butterflies in her hair. Dorothy is survived by her sons Buddy Ray Zoll of Sandy, Utah, Grant Fraley, Brookings fisherman and photographer; daughter-in-law Sylvia Fraley of Rogers, Ark. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son Wayne Fraley. Special thanks to the kind staff at Ocean Park and Sea View Senior Living for their loving care for the last two months of Dorothy's life. A brief memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 5, at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., in Brookings. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
