Obituary for Dorothy Joseff
Dorothy Joseff Dorothy Joseff passed away 9/25/10 after a battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. Her life extended from the beaches of the Indian Ocean to the shores of Brookings. She was raised in the depression in Los Angeles, and married young at the end of WW2. She was bright and, given her upbringing, very frugal, but capable of great generosity and enjoyment of life. She attended a year of art school after completing high school. She began selling real estate in the early 1960’s to fund her dream of travel to Europe and her life-long interest in art and antiques. She divorced in 1966, with a young son and no support but quickly made a home. When her son went off to college, she joined the Foreign Service and worked as secretary to our ambassadors all over the world, sometimes in desolate and hazardous postings. In 1987, she determined that she would retire in Brookings. In 1996, she met the love of her life, Jim Kelly, and they designed and built their dream home, with happy years together. Later, the grip of Alzheimer’s started to change her personality, and she would require the utmost in love and patience. Our family greatly appreciates the compassionate and expert medical care of Dr. Jay Patel. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Jim, son, Darol, daughter in law, Janet, and grandchildren, Brian and Katie. Her brother, Robert, predeceased her. A celebration of her life will be Saturday Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. at 92 Tanbark Circle, please park on Tanbark Road.
