Obituary for Dora Leone Jackson
Dora Jackson died Wednesday at her home in Brookings. A loving wife and mother whose home was always open to those who wanted to share in the warmth of a large family, focused on the spiritual walk through life. She was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Flasher and Ida (Coles) Howard. She married Henry Franklin Jackson in November 1949 at Silverton, OR. During their years living in Scottsburg, OR she worked as a nurse’s aid at Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport for more than 10 years. She and her husband worked hard in a large garden; canning and preserving for her family of six. Most summers were spent camping, fishing and hunting. The highlight of the summer was the 10 day camping vacation, traveling to various spots chosen during the winter months. She enjoyed reading and sewing, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is remembered for the many quilts she made for each child as they were born. During the almost forty years living in Scottsburg, she was very active in the Scottsburg Community Church, teaching Sunday School and Daily Vacation Bible School. After moving to Brookings she was a member of the First Baptist Community Church, helping children in AWANA and Child Evangelism Fellowship. She is survived by children David Jackson of Florence, Carol Harrell of Brookings, Cheryl Meischner of Reedsport, Larry Jackson of Brookings, Greg Jackson of Colorado Springs, CO, Gail Horn of Camas, WA; a sister, Ione Pinson of Springfield., OR; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
