Donald George Carpenter, 82, of Brookings, passed away May 3, 2011, while working in his garden. He was born May 20, 1820, 20 minutes after his twin brother, Arnold, in the old Carpenterville Store, approximately five miles south of Pistol River, to Chancey Edward and Rose Carpenter. Don served in the U.S. Marines on the mainland during the Korean war. He worked hard prior to retirement as a truck driver, logger and equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and beachcombing. Don could always be counted on when someone needed help. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Survivors include his twin brother Arnold; sister Ruth; daughter Genny Carpenter; son Shawn Carpenter; grandchildren Joseph Eddy and Cory Marshall. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Chancey Edward II; sister Florence; daughter Lonnie Carpenter. At his request no service will be held. His ashes will be buried in the Pistol River Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
