Obituary for Diane Patrikas Carey
Diane P. Carey of Brookings passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Jan. 21, 2012. She was 61 years old; born in Lynn, Mass. to Ernest and Nina Patrikas. Diane and her husband of 22 years, Richard Carey, moved to Brookings in 2009 after living in Seattle, Wa. for several years. Both had moved to Seattle in the 1970s but were not introduced to each other until 1987, meeting on a blind date secretly and serendipitously arranged by mutual friends. In 1972, Diane received her Bachelor of Science in Health Records Administration from Temple University in Philadelphia. During her early career years, Diane worked as Director of Medical Records at Providence Hospital in Seattle from 1975 to 1982. After her marriage to Richard in 1989, she devoted herself full-time to her family. She had a great and loving heart, selflessly committed to her family and friends. A friend to all creatures great and small, she dearly loved animals and loved to care for them. Diane is survived by her husband Richard, her daughter Nina, who is currently a student at Clarkson University in Potsdam N.Y., and her sister Elaine Patrikas of Bryn Mawr, Pa. For those who wish to celebrate her life, the greatest gesture you could make would be a donation to your favorite pet shelter or pet rescue organization.
