Obituary for Derick Wayne Christie
Derick Wayne Christie was born Sept. 9, 1992 in Crescent City, California to Wade and Danette Christie. On December 8th 2015 Derick’s body was found on Mill Beach, Brookings Oregon. The actual date of his death was on the eve of Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, 2015. Derick was drawn by the spectacular “Mourning Moon,” to the beach he loved. Alas the ocean took his young life at age 23.

He spent his childhood in Brookings, Oregon. Enjoyed soccer, baseball, discus, shotput, body building and spending time with family and friends. In high school Derick was placed in the wrong class and was unable to transfer. Because of this, an unknown talent emerged and his love of digital 3D art flourished. Derick graduated from Brookings-Harbor High in 2011. He had a big heart and wanted to connect with everyone he met. He was well liked and trusted by many. Derick was a remarkably talented and spiritual young man. He tutored many classmates during college. Derick graduated from the Art Institute of Portland, Oregon with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Art & Design in June of 2015.

Derick’s love for chocolate and peanut butter were intense, despite becoming a health nut in college he would still indulge in cacao, dark chocolate and natural peanut butter.

Derick was an intern at Pixel Pool, Portland, Oregon. After high school, he couldn’t wait to get out of this small town and into the big city, but after college he realized how much he couldn’t wait to get back to the coast. In his words, “…just wanted to be at peace on the coast away from the city. I’m starting my own business on the coast he said, and am going to possibly teach. I’d rather be giggling at everything and doing art. I love life so much!”

Derick loved God. We know his soul is safe with him. He will be missed beyond words can express, and can continue his beautiful art that he loved somewhere beyond the stars.

Derick is survived by his parents Wade and Danette Christie of Brookings; Brother, David Christie of Brookings; Grandmothers, Audrey Christie Sagmiller of Gold Hill and Karen Foster of Brookings; Step Grandfather Duane Sagmiller of Gold Hill; Aunts, Tamela Foster and Donna Burgess of Brookings; Uncles, Darryl Foster of Brookings and Wayne Christie of Clackamas; Cousins Annette and Craig Allen of Aloha, Keith and Catherine Christie of Bend, Shane Sumner of Brookings, Stephanie Morthole of Medford, Danielle Hargrove of Brookings, Moriah Foster of Eureka; Great Aunts, Marie Kanne of West Linn, Brenda Barns of Coburg, Lorraine Stevens of Clackamas and Great Uncle Larry Foster of Coburg.

Derick sponsored a young boy from India through “Children International.” His parents are continuing this support in Derick’s memory. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s International, http://www.children.org/.

He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers James Christie, 1996 and Deputy Dave Foster, killed in the line of duty 1984, both of Brookings, Oregon.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Elk’s Lodge, 800 Elk Drive, Brookings Oregon, Minister Michael Wilk of Church of Christ will officiate. Wear Flip Flops in memory of Derick.
