David Yanez, 72, of Brookings, passed away Oct. 27, 2016, in Crescent City, California, after a year-long illness.
He was born Jan. 3, 1944, in Orange, California, to Ruby and Salvador Yanez.
David was proud to have served his country for more than nine years.
In 1961, David joined the U.S. Navy and served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Midway as an EM3. Upon Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1964, he then joined the Naval Reserve as an EO2, and in 1969 joined the National Guard.
David’s lifelong career was in the trucking industry. He was a semi truck driver for Thrifty Drugs from 1975 and retired from Rite-Aid in 1999. He and his life-partner Kathryn then sold their home in Yorba Linda, California, and retired to their cabin in Twain Harte, California. In 2001, they moved to Gold Beach, and in 2005 they moved to Brookings.
David was an amazing history buff and golf enthusiast. They both loved to travel the United States, the Caribbean islands, Jamaica and Mexico by way of car, plane, ship or RV.
David is survived by Kathryn, his life-partner of more than 40 years; daughters Kimberly and Laurie; grandchildren Jennifer, Erin, Sabrina, Candice and Ryan; great-grandchildren Lillie, Kadence, Lexi, Mayson, Addison, Eric and Sierra; siblings Trina, Olivia, Yolanda, Paul, Leonard and Charlie. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
David was preceded in death by his parents Salvador and Ruby, brothers Tony and Oscar, and sister Marie.
A celebration of life for David will be held at a later date.
Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
