Obituary for David R. Nixon
David R. Nixon Feb. 13, 1933 – Oct. 19, 2010 David R. Nixon passed away at his home with his family by his bedside on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. He was 77. David was born February 13, 1933 in Eureka, CA to Cecil and Helen (Ross) Nixon. He moved to San Francisco as a child where he would attend and graduate from Lowell High School. David attended junior college before enlisting in the US Naval Reserve. After two years in the Reserve, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he served until being honorably discharged on July 1, 1955. While stationed in Hawaii, David met Dorothy Huey. The two fell in love and were married in Oahu on December 18, 1954. Upon his discharge, they moved to San Francisco where David earned his electrical engineering degree from Heald Engineering College. He then began what would be a 35 year career with Westinghouse Electric in Sunnyvale, CA. Beginning as an engineer, David worked his way up to Director of Programs for the company’s Marine Division having worked on the Trident and Polaris nuclear submarines. Upon retirement, David and Dorothy moved from Belmont, CA to Brookings, OR. They loved to travel and had literally traveled all over the world visiting all seven continents. He had a passion for fishing and tying his own flies. He shared this passion with students as he taught fly tying on a volunteer basis at BHHS. David also participated in the Aspire program there, encouraging young people to attend college. He will be remembered as an intelligent, loving and loyal husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy of Brookings; daughters Terri Nixon Peck of Honolulu, HI, Tracie Mattei and her husband, Mike of Bend, OR, Tami Nixon and her husband, Paul Mullen of Napa, CA, son, Timothy Nixon and his wife, France of Belmont, CA, grandchildren, Chelsea Peck, Shaun Peck, Emily and Forrest Peck, Malia, Dalton and Trevor Nixon, Amanda and Brianna Mattei, Timothy Macholz and Madeline Hill-Nixon, sister, Mary Peard and her husband, Gerald of Redding, CA.
