Obituary for Darlene Colby
Darlene Colby Aug. 1, 1954 – Aug. 1, 2011 Darlene Colby, 57, of Nesika Beach, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 from natural causes in Gold Beach. Darlene was born August 1, 1954 in Gold Beach to James and Garnetta (Bruce) Allen. She grew up here and graduated from Gold Beach High School. Darlene worked as a cook most of her life and excelled at many different types of dishes including calzones, apple pies and Denver omelet’s to name a few. She worked at the Golden Egg in Gold Beach for several years. Darlene also enjoyed being a caregiver for both adults and children. She married Mike Colby, Sr. in Eugene on October 28, 1986. Darlene loved her family. Whether it was teaching the grandkids about baking, wherein they were sure, when finished, to be covered in flour or chocolate, or teaming up with her son to put on a spaghetti feed, she was devoted to nurturing and caring for all of her family. She also enjoyed gardening and was extremely fond of hummingbirds. Darlene is survived by her husband, Mike Colby, Sr. of Gold Beach, son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Shelley Allen of Gold Beach, son, Mike Colby, Jr. of Gold Beach, grandchildren, Sadie, Brandy and Madison Allen, brothers, Jerry and Dennis Allen of Gold Beach and Darrell and his wife, Sally of Gold Beach, nieces and nephews, Jeff Turnow and his wife, Roby, Suzy Capps and her husband, Fred, Angie Couch, Brad Allen, Lori Allen, Linda Winslow, Kim Tuttle, Jim Allen, Renée Turnow, Morgan Allen, Brandon Couch, James Capps, Johnny Capps, Jeffrey Turnow, and Justin Turnow. She was preceded in death by her brother, Merle Allen and a sister, Sharon Turnow. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or online at diabetes.org. A graveside service was held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 2:00pm at Rogue River Cemetery, Hunter Creek Rd. in Gold Beach.
