Obituary for Claire Bonde
Claire Bonde July 14, 1919 – Jan. 3, 2017
Claire Bonde, 97, of Brookings, passed away at a local care facility in Brookings, Ore. on Jan. 3, 2017.
Claire was born July 14, 1919 in Randle, Wash. to H. Bee and Amelia (Borde) Blankinship. She lived in Packwood, Wash. until moving to Brookings in 1946. Claire married Andrew A. Bonde on Dec. 22, 1939 in Winlock, Wash. They moved into the Jones homestead on Old County Road in 1951 and she lived there until 2012. Claire dedicated her life to her husband and children. She was an excellent cook; one could never eat enough to please her. She also loved her grandchildren, reading, gardening, playing cards and sitting in the sun. Claire was always willing to help people. She was a longtime member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sons, Philip Bonde and his wife, Rose of Brookings, Darrel Bonde and his wife Kathy of Brookings, Ken Bonde and his wife Sue of Grants Pass, Ore.; daughters, Rose Hedenskog and her husband, Ron of Brookings, Pam Calvert and her husband, Terry of Grants Pass, Ore.; sister, Arleta Sanders of Centralia, Wash., fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Claire was preceded in death by her husband Andrew after 59 years of marriage, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 10:30am on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 820 Old County Rd. in Brookings. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am, followed by a luncheon in the Parish Hall. A committal service and burial will follow at WJ Ward Memorial Cemetery.
