Obituary for Charles R. "Chuck" Martin
Charles “Chuck” R. Martin, 80, passed away at his home in Harbor on February 6, 2015. Chuck was born January 3, 1935 in Hartselle, Alabama, the seventh of eight children to Harry and Eula (Morrow) Martin. He graduated from Alliance High School, Alliance, NE in 1953. Chuck served honorably in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. He married Sharon J. Delaney on September 3, 1960 in Toppenish, Wash. They later moved to Oregon where they would live in Milton-Freewater, Newport, Corvallis, Tillamook, Coos Bay, and Brookings. After retirement, they moved back to Toppenish, Wash where they lived for six years before returning to Brookings. Chuck worked for 22 years with the State of Oregon at local DMV offices, including 9 years as manager of the Coos Bay office. He enjoyed his work there, especially enabling young people to enjoy the freedoms that come with a driver’s license. His love for young people extended into volunteering with the Cub Scouts as well. Chuck also loved to fish and beach comb; he and Sharon also enjoyed traveling in their RV after retirement. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sharon of Harbor, sons, Robert Martin of Salem, Ore., Scott Martin and his wife, Angela, of Ellensburg, Wash., grandchildren, Ryan Porter Martin, Allina Marie Martin and Christopher Patrick Martin, brother, Donnie Martin and his wife, Ginny, of Tualatin, Ore., sisters, Inez Galusha of Jefferson, Ore., Betty Waldron of Ft. Collins, Colo., Peggy Webb of Philadelphia, Miss. Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Martin and sisters, Faye Rice and Lela Mae Brazil. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at a later date. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
