Obituary for Charles Lingard
Charles W. Lingard Sept. 24, 1950 – Sept. 22, 2011 Charles W. Lingard, of Brookings, passed away in Medford, Ore. on September 22, 2011. He was 60. Charles was born in Seattle, Wash. to Vern and Evelyn (Nash) Lingard on September 24, 1950. He lived there until the family moved to Brookings in 1956. Charles graduated from Brookings Harbor High School and enlisted in the US Navy. He served for 20 years as an aircraft mechanic, retiring in 1988. On July 10, 1989, he married Julita Omela in Brookings. Charles was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the VFW Post 966, where he held various offices including as the current Quartermaster. He loved Japanese trains and was a great conversationalist – always ready to recite a memorized text or limerick. He also liked to collect guns. Charles was also active in the Filipino American Association of Crescent City. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Julita of Brookings, brother, Stephen Lingard of Carter Lake, Iowa, sister, Susan Lingard-Heim of Peters Hausen, Germany, and two nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at 1:00pm at the VFW Hall, Pioneer and Pacific Ave. in Brookings. Private inurnment will be held at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery.
