Burton H. Curtis passed away at his home in Harbor on May 7, 2012. He was 90. Burt, as friends and family knew him, was born June 24, 1921 in New York, New York to Louis and Hazel (Samuels) Curtis. He married Edith Charlotte Hudson on December 24, 1942 at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York. He entered the US Army in February of 1944 and traveled to Europe with the 9th Armored Division. He returned in 1946 and he and Edith moved to Connecticut. After several years there they moved to Pennsylvania where they had a son, Bobby, in 1948. Their second son, Douglas, was born in 1951. A job change came about and they moved to Georgia. In 1951, Burt’s A.F. Reserve Unit at Marietta, Geo. was called to active duty in the Korean Conflict. He and his family spent 18 months in Puerto Rico. After that tour, they returned to Georgia. They later moved to South Carolina. Burt retired from his position as Inspector with the US Dept. of Defense in 1977. In 1987, Burt and Edith moved to the San Francisco Bay area for 2 years before moving to Grants Pass. His lifelong career was in aircraft engine component manufacturing and maintenance. He loved to fly and they had their own aircraft in Georgia. He also loved boating and had his own boats over the years. He flew radio controlled model airplanes and enjoyed fishing over the years. Burt was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars having served as an officer in both. He was a member of many organizations including the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the National Rifle Association. Burt moved to Brookings with daughter Angel and son-in-law, David in 2001. Survivors include his beloved daughter Angelique and her husband, David Allen, son, Douglas of Wash., granddaughters Alexandra Curtis Allen and Wendy Sue Curtis; grandson Gabriel Noah Allen, sister-in-law, Nancy McCluskey and brother-in-law, Jack McCluskey of Florida and their great family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Edith, brother, Jerold and son, Bobby. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2683 Riley Rd. in Eagle Point, OR.
