Obituary for Brent Ferris
Raymond Brent Ferris passed away at his home in Brookings, Ore. on October 25, 2012 – one day shy of his 72nd birthday. Brent, as family and friends knew him, was born October 26, 1940 in Oakland, Calif. to Raymond, Sr. and Edith (Macklin) Ferris. He lived most of his life in the Bay Area. Following high school, Brent attended college briefly before enlisting in the US Marine Corps. After being discharged, he began what would be a lifelong career in the food business. Initially running bread and candy supply routes, Brent later worked as a produce manager for local grocery stores. He married Nancy Filippi on October 18, 1985 in Fairfield, Calif. The two retired to Brookings in 2002. Brent loved being in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing in area rivers and in the ocean. Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Brookings, children, Tara Kelly of Fremont,Calif., Janell Wyant of Citrus Heights, Calif., David Filippi of Pacifica, Calif. and Dominic Filippi of San Mateo, Calif., six grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bob Prindle of Moraga, Calif and a niece, Robin De Sapio of Ventura, Calif. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Brent’s memory to the Bay Area Hospital Radiation Therapy Center, Gift of Hope, 1775 Thompson Rd., Coos Bay, OR 97420. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. in Brookings. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
