Obituary for Boris V. Golceff
Boris V. Golceff Aug. 7, 1933 – Sept. 28, 2012 Boris V. Golceff passed away at his home in Brookings on September 28, 2012. He was 79. Boris was born August 7, 1933 in Harbin, Manchuria, China to Vladimir and Charlotte (Hintze) Goltzeff. The family then immigrated to Japan when Boris was 3. He lived there until, at the age of 4, he immigrated to the United States aboard the SS Taiyo Maru. Boris received his citizenship at the age of 14. He attended school in San Carlos and, following high school graduation, earned a degree at San Mateo Junior College. Boris entered the US Navy in 1954 and served aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard. He was honorably discharged in 1958. He returned to California where he pursued a career in engineering. Boris worked initially for Lockheed Corporation, but, in 1964, began what would be a 32-year career at the Stanford University Linear Accelerator Center. He mainly worked in the repair and maintenance of the accelerator unit and, in a joint effort with MIT, contributed to Stanford's Burton Richter sharing in the Nobel Prize for the discovery of the Psi/J-particle in 1967. Boris married Mary Bostrom on March 5, 1960 in Redwood City, California. Following his retirement in 1996, they moved to Brookings. Boris enjoyed woodworking and had made all sorts of cabinets and items for his children. He even constructed his own Hi-Fidelity speaker cabinet. Boris loved to tinker with electronics; his most recent project being a circuit board that would remotely control his household generator. Boris and Mary were also longtime members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Survivors include Mary Golceff, his wife of 52 years of Brookings, daughters and sons-in-law, Patrice and Eddie Reeves of Modesto, Calif., Pamela and Gary Vaughn of Hillmar, Calif., son, Paul Golceff of New Braunfels, Tex., grandchildren, Amanda Page, Marissa Meixner, Jessica Meixner, Joseph Seward, Madison Golceff, Jacquelyn Vaughn, Lucas Vaughn, great grandchildren, Cecelia Seward, Sophie Meixner, Anna Marie Page, Ethan Page and Amelia Vega, sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Paul Zoulin of Wikliffe, Kentucky. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1210 Ransom Ave. in Brookings.
