Obituary for Billy P. McMichen
Billy P. McMichen Feb. 23, 1932 – May 12, 2010 Billy P. McMichen passed away in Gold Beach on May 12, 2010. He was 78. Billy was born February 23, 1932 in Rockmart, GA to Robert and Flora (White) McMichen. He grew up in Georgia and spent his early working years in the iron industry. Billy married Bashie Claxton in Girrard, GA on February 25, 1950. They moved to California where Billy owned and operated his own custom grading and heavy equipment business, McMichen Grading, until retiring in 1990. They moved to Gold Beach in 2007. Billy enjoyed woodworking and had built most of the family’s furniture and cabinets – he even built an actual harp out of curly maple. Billy was very inventive, in that if he needed a tool for a particular task and couldn’t find it he would just make it. Survivors include his wife, Bashie of Gold Beach, son, Danny McMichen of Campbell, CA, grandchildren, Dusty McMichen of Bend, Or, Liane Gilliland of Menefee, CA, Kara McMichen of Campbell, CA, great grandchildren, Dylan Martin, Adam Gilliland and Ryan Gilliland, sister, Carol Wheeler of Decatur, GA. Billy was preceded in death by a son, David McMichen. A celebration of Billy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:00pm at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. in Brookings. Lite refreshments will follow there.
