Obituary for Berna Rausch
Berna Rausch, of Brookings, passed away in Springfield, OR on October 2, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was 79. Berna was born September 16, 1932 in Alturas, Calif. to Hobart and Bernice (Dooney) Kline. They moved to Seattle and then to Sweet Home, OR where Berna grew up. In 1953, she married Leo Brown. They later divorced. On August 9, 1968, Berna married Doyle Rausch in Vancouver, Wash. They made their home in Brookings where Doyle worked at Ray’s Food Place and Berna worked as head custodian for Brookings Harbor High School. She would later work for Rexall Drug (now Chetco Pharmacy). In 1975, Doyle was given an opportunity to manage the Ray’s Food Place in Hoopa so he and Berna moved there where she worked as head cashier, also for Ray’s. They lived there for 18 years, returning to Brookings in 1992. Berna enjoyed singing in her retirement years with her twin brother, Burt, in his western band known as “Burt Kline and Phoenix”. They sang at various locations including the Brookings Elks Lodge. Berna had a love for many different kinds of music and was involved in music ministries at her church. She was a member of Job’s Daughters and the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed activities in those organizations, but, most of all, Berna loved her family. She was a best friend to her children as well as a mother – one in whom they could confide if they had a problem and would always lead them with wisdom and integrity. Survivors include her husband, Doyle of Brookings, children, Dianna Rausch of Seattle, WA, Terry Rausch of Las Vegas, NV, Darla Stillman and her husband, Mike of Roseburg, OR, Tom Rausch and his wife, Barbara of Grants Pass, OR, Laurie Rhodes and her husband, John of Brookings, Jennifer Atias and her husband, Brian of Sun Lakes, AZ, Rachelle Redding of Willow Creek, CA, seventeen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, brothers, Burton Kline and his wife, Barbara of Rockaway, OR, Hobart Kline and his wife, Marilyn of Springfield, OR, Alfred Boyles and his wife, Verlie of Springfield, OR, sisters, Darlene Kline-Dolby and her husband, Lloyd of Eugene, OR, Bobbi Boyles-McCarthy of Grande Ronde, OR, sister-in-law, Carol Wigley and her husband, Ben of Crescent City, CA, numerous nieces and nephews. Berna was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Kailee Rae Robinette in 2011. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Cascade Division 8495 SE Monterey Avenue, Happy Valley, OR 97086. Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 11am to 1:30pm in the Chapel at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery, 1035 7th St. in Brookings. A graveside service will follow there at 2:00pm. Friends are invited to a celebration of life reception at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane in Brookings following the service.
