Obituary for Benny H. Westbrook
Benny H. Westbrook, 72, passed away Feb. 28, 2013, at his home in Brookings. Benny was born Nov. 9, 1940, in Eden, Texas, to Harold and Cleo (McDonald) Westbrook. He spent his childhood in Southern California. Benny was a boat builder and commercial fisherman by trade. He loved to fish and continued to fish commercially out of Brookings-Harbor when he moved here in 1979. Benny was the owner and captain of the fishing vessel Freya out of Brookings-Harbor. Benny was also a member of the Brookings Elks Lodge 1934 and enjoyed riding motorcycles. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Nancy Westbrook of Brookings; sons Benjamin Westbrook and Ken Westbrook, both of California; former wife Peggy Westbrook of Brookings; sisters Betty Buck of Brookings and Nancy Capp of California; brother John Huntsucker of Nevada; grandchildren Alexsandra Westbrook of California, Colton, Jacob, Bronson, Maclane and Gage Westbrook, all of Brookings, Cale Hatch of Georgia; dear and close friends Rick Endley, Gary and Sunny Richardson. A celebration of Benny’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Brookings Elks Lodge, 800 Elk Drive in Brookings. A potluck reception will follow at the Lodge.
