Barney Mason was born Aug 12, 1931 in Dardanelle, Ark. to parents Floyd and Wrenas Mason. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. On April 26, 1953, he married Shirley Nance in Reno. He came to Brookings in 1969 from Vallejo, CA. and was a Postal Clerk, retiring after 33yrs. in 1989. He attended the Methodist Church in Vallejo and was a Boy Scout Leader there. He was President of the Rancho Vallejo Home Owners Assoc., a member of the Chetco/Rouge Fly Fishers Club, NARF, (National Assoc of Retired Federal Employees), and volunteered for the American Red Cross. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making toys, and fly fishing. He is survived by wife; Shirley Mason, children; Michael Alan Mason of Bend, Colleen Janet McComb of Bend, Dennis James Mason of Brookings, Sisters; Oleta & George Nance of Lake Isabella, CA., Novie & Bill Price of Vacaville, CA., Myrna Howells of Lake Isabella, a brother; Ed Mason of Lake Isabella, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the Chetco Community Library. A memorial service will be on July 17 at Living Waters Foursquare Church. Arrangements are by Redwood Memorial Chapel.
