Obituary for Barbara R. Young
Barbara R. Young, 89, passed away in Gold Beach, Ore. on June 10, 2015. Barbara was born May 21, 1926 in Klamath Falls, Ore. to Victor and Ruth (Avery) Palmer. She grew up and attended local schools. Following high school, she attended two years at Oregon State University. Barbara married Rex Young on August 23, 1951 in Klamath Falls. She worked as a receptionist for various medical practices around the Basin. Barbara was very active and supportive of her boys’ activities including opening her home as host for baseball teams that traveled and in various capacities with Boy Scouts. She also volunteered for American Legion baseball and the Klamath Falls Falcons including serving as the organization’s treasurer. Rex and Barbara loved fishing on the ocean. Their many trips to Brookings culminated in purchasing a second home where they eventually retired. Barbara also enjoyed spending time with her family; she was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Rex of Klamath Falls; sons, Jim Young of Klamath Falls, Dick Young and his wife, Pam, of Klamath Falls, grandchildren, Keith and Erin, great grandchild, Spencer, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and JoAnn Palmer of Medford, Ore. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Redwood Memorial Chapel in Brookings is assisting the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
