Obituary for Barbara L. Brooks
Barbara L. Brooks passed away at her home in Brookings on Nov. 3, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was 81. Barbara was born Oct. 10, 1932 in Pascagoula, Miss. to William and Dorothy (Carlisle) Clark. She married Stanwood G. Brooks in San Francisco, Calif. on Oct. 13, 1951. Barbara worked as a grocery store clerk at the Two Rock Coast Guard Station and for Safeway. She also later worked for the Electrolux Corporation. Stanwood and Barbara retired to Brookings in 2002 following 13 years of travel in the RV. Barbara volunteered her time to many organizations including Capella by the Sea, the Brookings-Harbor Food Bank and the Curry Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of Brookings Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bruce Hicks of Citrus Heights, Calif., son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Toni Brooks of Petaluma, Calif., grandchildren, Barbie Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Joshua Hicks and his wife, Jamie and Jason Hicks, great grandchildren, twin sister and brother Keni and Dexter Hicks and Lucas Cheda, brother and sister-in-law, William and Eva Donã of Green Cove Springs, Flo. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Stanwood in 2010, daughter, Barbara Jeannette Brooks and son, Don F. Brooks. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brookings-Harbor Food Bank, PO Box 1415, Brookings, OR 97415. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 at Brookings Presbyterian Church, 540 Pacific Ave. in Brookings. Rev. David Hunter will officiate. Following cremation, Barbara will be laid to rest with her husband at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, Calif.
