Obituary for Allan C. Christopherson
Allan C. Christopherson Aug. 4, 1927 - May 11, 2010 Allan C. Christopherson passed away in his home in Gold Beach on May 11, 2010. He was 82. Allan was born August 4, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA to George and Rosalee (Schmidt) Christopherson. After graduating high school in Oceanside, Cal., Allan received a scholarship to Nevada State University where he played football for the Wolf Pack. He served in the US Army during WWII and received an honorable discharge. He worked as a journeyman plumber for 17 years and was a 60-year member of the Plumbers Local 230 in San Diego, where he also owned and operated at ten ton Albacore boat, the "Shani", during the summer months. Allan married Irene Miskey in Hawthorn, NV on June 27, 1959. Just last year, to celebrate their 50th anniversary, they returned to the same Bethany Lutheran Church in Hawthorn and renewed their vows. For the first 17 years of their marriage, Allan and Irene lived in Cardiff-by-the-sea, CA. During this time he grew award-winning fuchsias and orchids, taking many first place trophies at the Del Mar Fairs. Allan enjoyed hunting but was really an avid fisherman, traveling to the West Indies, Hawaii, the Bahamas and Mexico on fishing trips with his wife. Upon retirement, they decided to move to Gold Beach, OR where he fished for salmon on the Rogue River. They purchased 72 acres on Grizzly Mountain above Gold Beach where Allan built their home 36 years ago – he was jokingly known to friends and neighbors as “King of the Hill.” For several years he continued to commercial fish. Allan was an accomplished wood worker and was known to design, make and wind his own fishing poles as well as his own jigs. About 10 years ago Allan decided to buy a second home in Crystal River, FL where he and Irene spent their winters, however, 3 years ago he decided to return to Gold Beach full-time where he felt more at home in the mountains on the West Coast. Allan knew what he wanted and lived life to the fullest. He was a warm, gentle man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 51years, Irene Christopherson, daughter, Paula Donnatin of Gardnerville, NV, stepsons, Robert Stephens and Michael Stephens, both of Gold Beach, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Allan was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Lad. He was a member of the American Legion and will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, OR. A celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer.
