Obituary for Alden M. Loring
Longtime Brookings resident and businessman Alden Loring passed away at his home on Thursday, March 29, 2012. He was 87. Alden was born October 2, 1924 in McMinnville, Ore., to Lucien, Sr. and Myrth (Mason) Loring. He served in the US Navy during WWII in their Construction Battalion, nicknamed “Seabees.” Following his military service, Alden attended Oregon State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in business. Alden married Luella Bergt in June of 1951. They moved to Brookings in 1955 where Alden went into business with his brother, Lucien. They moved to a new location in and renamed the business to its current name, Loring’s Lighthouse Sporting Goods. Alden operated the store until retiring on May 1, 1989. Luella preceded him in death in 1985. Alden married Daphne Jones-Scalletti on August 18, 2011. Survivors include his wife, Daphne of Brookings, daughter and son-in-law, Tamara Loring and Forrest Green of Prior Lake, Minn., son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Christi Loring of Brookings, grandchildren, Mason and Daron Loring Green, Morgan and Spencer Loring, sister, Myrth Loring of Seal Rock, OR, stepchildren, Jeremiah Bateman, his wife Brie and their children, Araya, Cayden and Logan, Jason Bateman, his companion Kristen and their son, Paxton, Jessica Bateman and her daughter, Destiny Lavalle. Alden was preceded in death by his brother, Lucien Loring, Jr. Alden is preceded in death by his first wife, Luella. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Coast Humane Society, PO Box 7233, Brookings, OR 97415. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Calvary Assembly of God Church, Fir and Oak St. in Brookings. Pastor Adrian Van Aswegen will officiate. A luncheon will follow at the church. Private interment was held at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery.
