Obituary for June Elizabeth Freid
June Elizabeth Freid
June 1, 1922 - December 27, 2017

After a long and blessed life, June peacefully passed away at her home in Gold Beach at the age of 95. Not only did she join her heavenly Father, but was also undoubtedly greeted by her husband, Victor; her parents W.E. and Julia Barber; her sister and brother-in-law, Ron and Marilyn Leri; and most recently, her daughter Juli’s loving companion, David Boses.
June began her life in San Francisco, and grew up in Santa Rosa, California. She graduated from Santa Rosa High School and attended Santa Rosa Junior College. She was a bright student and made many life-long friends while living there.

Soon after she met and married Vic, they began their family. They raised their young children while running a hop farm in Hopland, California. After some years, they moved to Pasadena, California, where she continued to raise her children as Vic grew his tool and dye business. After many years in Pasadena, June and Vic enjoyed coastal life in Laguna Niguel, California.
Upon visiting friends in Gold Beach, June and Vic felt called to spend their retirement years in this serene and pristine environment. June and Vic quickly became involved in their new community, as members of St. Charles Catholic Church, playing bridge, and dining out with new friends (her favorite restaurant was Spinners). Nothing, however, brought her greater joy than entertaining family with hikes on the local beaches and through the forest that surrounded her new home.

June, “Big Red,” enjoyed tennis, needlepoint, bridge, gardening and decorating. She shared her talent for flowers by creating beautiful arrangements for St. Charles Church. Most important to her, however, were her faith and her family. She is remembered for her fiery red hair, her great sense of humor and her impeccable style. She taught us all to appreciate the beauty in nature, as she would delight equally in finding a patch of wild mushrooms, or watching sea lions bask in the sun. In her later years, she would spend hours each day looking out at the river and the ocean from her kitchen window. She also taught us the virtue of patience and to appreciate the kindness and patience of those who spent time with her, especially in her later years.

June is survived by her children, Vicki (Steve) Thompson, Steve (Connie) Freid, and Juli Cleveland; her grandchildren, Sheri (Todd) Tabor, Katy (Scott) Andrews, Steve (Tiffany) Thompson, Paul (Lacy) Thompson; Jeremy, Jamin and Jonathon Freid; Kathryn and Lora Cleveland, Brandy (Jesus) Tecocoatzi, Josh (Connie) Cleveland and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Special thanks from the Freid and Thompson families to Kathryn Cleveland and all her caretakers. She enjoyed an outstanding quality of life in her later years, thanks to you!

Funeral will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Gold Beach. Rosary will begin at 10:30. Visitors are welcome to join the family at the home of June Freid directly after the burial. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Coastal Home Health and Hospice.
